Science in the Slam
Screening for antibiotic-resistant bacteria in the environmental sector is just as crucial as in the health sector, especially under the One Health approach. The environment often serves as a reservoir and transmission route for resistant organisms affecting humans and animals. By monitoring resistance in water, soil, and waste, we can detect emerging threats early, reduce cross-sector spread, and inform better public health responses. Integrated surveillance across all sectors is essential for effective antibiotic resistance control and protecting global health.
