At the Healthy Environment and Lifestyles Initiative (HEaL), our youth-led projects aim to promote environmental protection, public health, and sustainable living in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). We take a One Health approach, recognizing the interconnectedness of people, animals, plants, and the environment in achieving a healthier future.
Our Key Project Areas:
Environmental Health Awareness: Educating communities on the impacts of pollution, poor sanitation, and climate change on human health.
Antibiotic Resistance Surveillance: Monitoring resistant bacteria in environmental samples (soil, water, waste) to support early detection and response under SDG 3 and SDG 6. Publications | Chioma (Lilian) Ozoaduche | LinkedIn
Clean Water & Sanitation Campaigns: Promoting safe water, hand hygiene, and waste management in schools and underserved areas (SDG 6).
Sustainable Agriculture & Food Safety: Advocating for eco-friendly farming, reduced chemical use, and food safety practices that protect both people and ecosystems (SDG 2: Zero Hunger, SDG 12).
Climate Action & Ecosystem Protection: Engaging communities in tree planting, pollution control, and climate education to reduce environmental degradation (SDG 13, SDG 15).
Youth Engagement & Green Skills Training: Empowering young people with knowledge, advocacy skills, and tools to lead in sustainable development (SDG 4: Quality Education, SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth).
Green Lifestyles & Responsible Consumption: Hosting workshops and media campaigns on reducing plastic use, eco-conscious living, and circular economy practices (SDG 12).
Gender, Health & Environmental Justice: Promoting inclusive, equitable solutions that address the unique health and environmental challenges faced by women and vulnerable groups (SDG 5: Gender Equality, SDG 10: Reduced Inequalities).
Through these projects, we aim to foster healthier people, safer environments, and more sustainable communities—because our health depends on the health of the planet.
